DOOR SUPERVISOR COURSE
The Door Supervisor qualification is a mandatory requirement for anyone who wants to work in the private security industry in roles involving licensed premises. Once you successfully complete the course, you can apply for an SIA Door Supervisor Licence, subject to the current SIA requirements.
This is a 6-day training course that includes multiple-choice examinations and practical assessment. It is designed to provide learners with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to work professionally and safely as a door supervisor.
QUALIFICATION OVERVIEW
To achieve the qualification, learners must complete all four units:
- Principles of Working in the Private Security Industry
- Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry
- Application of Conflict Management in the Private Security Industry
- Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry
These units provide the essential knowledge required to work in a wide range of security roles, especially in licensed premises such as bars, nightclubs, hotels, restaurants, and events.

This course provides a comprehensive understanding of the main characteristics of the private security industry and the legal responsibilities of individuals carrying out licensable activities. Learners gain knowledge of relevant legislation, the importance of safe working practices to meet legal requirements, and correct fire and emergency procedures in the workplace. The qualification also emphasises the value of effective communication skills and high standards of customer care to ensure safety, professionalism, and positive public interaction within security roles.
This unit covers the role and key objectives of a door supervisor, including maintaining safety, preventing disorder, and protecting people and property. Learners develop an understanding of relevant civil and criminal law, powers of arrest, lawful searching procedures, and licensing law with a focus on social responsibility. The course also addresses drug misuse awareness, incident recording, and crime scene preservation, along with correct emergency procedures. In addition, it highlights the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals, effective queue management, and venue capacity control to ensure a safe and compliant environment.
This unit covers the principles of conflict management appropriate to the role and how to reduce risks in conflict situations. It explains how to communicate effectively in emotive situations to de-escalate conflict, develop and use problem-solving strategies for resolving disputes, and follow good practice after conflict situations.
